East African Community Headquarters, Arusha, Tanzania, 24th October, 2020: The former President of the Republic of Burundi and Head of the East African Community Election Observer Mission (EOM) to the General Elections in the United Republic of Tanzania, H.E Sylvestre Ntibantunganya, paid a courtesy call to the former President of the United Republic of Tanzania, H.E Ali Hassan Mwinyi at his Msasani home in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania.
East African Community Headquarters, Arusha, Tanzania, 16th October, 2020: The EAC Election Observer Mission is due for deployment in Tanzania, effective Friday 23rd October, 2020. The Mission will arrive in Dar es salaam on Friday 23rd October 2020 and will observe the General Elections slated for 28th October, 2020.
The deployment of EAC Election Observer Mission is a mandate under the Treaty for the Establishment of the EAC and pursuant to the invitation of the National Electoral Commission of Tanzania (NEC), as well as the decision of the Council of Ministers on observation of elections in the EAC Partner States. The Mission’s mandate is to observe the overall electoral environment, pre-election activities, the polling day, the counting and tallying/announcement of results.
East African Court of Justice, 30th September 2020: The First Instance Division dismisses a case (Reference No. 6 of 2019 Male H Mabirizi Kiwanuka vs. The Attorney General of Uganda) challenging the government over the decision of the Supreme Court of Uganda that upheld the enactment of Constitutional (Amendment) Act No. 2 of 2018.
He contested the legality of a host of actions, directives and decisions of the Executive, Legislative and Judicial branches of the Government of the Republic of Uganda (‘the Respondent State’) for their role in the conceptualization, processing and validation of Uganda's Constitutional (Amendment) Act of 2018.
