EAC Partner States have no option but to accelerate the integration process

East African Community Secretariat, Arusha, Tanzania, 5th May, 2021: East African Community Partner States have no option but to accelerate the integration process if the region is to become competitive in the global economy, Ugandan President Yoweri Museveni has said. 

President Museveni said that failure by the EAC Partner States to form a stronger, more cohesive bloc with a bigger market would be disastrous for the region in the long run. 

“Integration is not really something we will do or not do. It is a must. If we don’t we shall end up in a very bad situation. The question we should be asking ourselves as we seek to integrate is why need to integrate. If we can answer that question, the how will become quite easy,” said President Museveni.

East African Community Headquarters, Arusha, 5th May, 2021: 42nd Extra-ordinary meeting of the EAC Council of Ministers is expected to take place from 6th - 7th May, 2021 via virtual means.

The two-day meeting will start with the session of Senior Officials and session of the Coordination Committee (Permanent /Principal/Under Secretaries) on Thursday 6th May, 2021 while the Ministerial Session will be held on Friday 7th May, 2021.

EAC Partner States urged to fast-track the formation of the porposed EAC Political Federation

East African Community Secretariat, Arusha, Tanzania, 3rd May, 2021: East African Community Partner States have been urged to expedite the formation of the proposed Political Confederation for the region.  

Uganda’s Acting Chief Justice Richard Butera said that East Africans had always lived together and would not wait for the Partner States to establish the confederation in order to continue with their interactions, adding that the citizens were well ahead of their national governments in as far as the integration process was concerned.
