LIST OF SHORTLISTED CANDIDATES AND INTERVIEWS SCHEDULE

We would like to inform the following applicants that they have been shortlisted for the positions at the East African Court of Justice (EACJ) below.

The interviews will be conducted through Video Conferencing System. The shortlisted candidates are required to go to the Ministry Responsible for EAC Affairs in their respective Capitals with their original Certificates.

The time of the Interviews will be communicated to the candidates individually.

Court hears oral evidence in a case challenging the Govt of Kenya over the alleged eviction of residents from Mau Forest

East African Court of Justice, 28th September 2021: The First Instance Division hears a witness in a matter over alleged eviction of residents from Mau Forest. The case which was filed by Prof Paul Kiprono, a Governor in Kenya sued the government of Kenya for evicted thousands of residents from their homesteads as unlawfully. In his case (Reference No.17 of 2018 Prof. Paul Kiprona vs Attorney General of Kenya)

He further alleges that many were tortured and their homes burnt down and the victims suffered a loss of properties without compensation. 

The Applicant further alleges that the eviction caused more than 5000 minors (pupils) out of schools, evicted from their ancestral homes and farms and residing in temporary camps without adequate food, shelter, sanitation, medical care and education.  The further urges that the Government has not provided any measures to support the pupils by establishing schools.

Great African Cycling Safari an excellent opportunity to market the EAC integration agenda - EALA Speaker

East African Community Headquarters, Arusha, Tanzania, 25th September, 2021: The Speaker of the East African Legislative Assembly (EALA), Rt. Hon Martin Ngoga said the Great African Cycling Safari is an excellent opportunity to market the EAC integration agenda to its actual owners, the people of East Africa. 

Speaking during the grand finale of the Great African Cycling Safari at the EAC Headquarters, Rt Hon. Ngoga said the purpose of the cycling safari was to create awareness around the integration process by sensitising communities along the bike tour as the cyclists interacted with the people.

EAC Secretary General calls for equitable global access to vaccines to rebuild from the Covid-19 Pandemic at the UN General Assembly

East African Community Headquarters, Arusha, Tanzania, 24th September, 2021: The East African Community (EAC) Secretary General, Hon. Dr. Peter Mathuki, has called for concerted efforts towards equitable global access to vaccines and support in investment to enable production of vaccines in developing nations. 

Speaking on the sidelines of High-Level debates at the 76th UN General Assembly (UNGA) in New York, USA, Dr. Mathuki supported the call by EAC leaders to waive intellectual property rights to allow more countries, particularly low- and middle-income countries, to produce COVID-19 vaccines. 

“Intellectual property rights and export restrictions need to be lifted to allow vaccine production within the African continent. A region that is not vaccinated is a source of propagating new variants of the Covid-19 virus,” said Dr. Mathuki.

Court hears matter challenging the Govt of Rwanda over alleged refusal to pay debt of military equipment

East African Court of Justice, 22nd September 2021: The First Instance Division heard a case faulting the government of Rwanda over alleged refusal by the Government to pay the debt of the Applicant arising from the order of Military equipment supplied, that is Reference No. 11 of 2018 between Mironko Francois Xavier vs the Attorney General of Rwanda. 

The Applicant who was represented by advocate William Ernest submitted that the Reference was filed within 2 months’ time as required by the Treaty. That the Applicant received the Ombudsman's letter on 4th April 2018 declining to propose his case for review by the Supreme Court of Rwanda and he filed his case to this Court on 4th June 2018.

EAC Secretary General urges AfCFTA Secretariat to adapt a private sector-led and people-centered approach to boost intra-African trade

East African Community Headquarters, Arusha, Tanzania, 21st September, 2021: The East African Community (EAC) Secretary General, Hon. (Dr.) Peter Mathuki, urged the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA) Secretariat to adapt an integration approach that is people-centred, market-driven and private sector-led, to ensure African citizens benefit from the continental agreement. 

Speaking in Accra, Ghana, during the 1st coordination meeting of Heads of Regional Economic Communities (RECs) on the implementation of the AfCFTA, Dr.Mathuki noted, AfCFTA, with a promising market of around 1.3 billion consumers and a GDP of 3.4 trillion US dollars, promises to unlock many opportunities beneficial to African's citizens.

15,000 youth and policy makers from across Africa expected to participate in the 5th East African Youth Leadership Hybrid Summit (YouLead Summit 2021)

East African Community Headquarters, Arusha, Tanzania, 20th September, 2021: The East African Community (EAC) in collaboration with the MS Training Centre for Development Cooperation are organizing the 5th East African Youth Leadership Summit (YouLead Africa Summit) from the 8th to 12th November, 2021.  

Since 2017, the EAC together with MSTCDC and other partners through their youth engagement initiatives – the EAC Youth Ambassadors Platform and YouLead Africa – Africa Youth Leadership Program respectively have jointly convened the annual YouLead Summit.

EAC hails Republic of Burundi and United Republic of Tanzania for retifying African Continental Free Trade Area Agreement

East African Community Headquarters, Arusha, Tanzania, 11th September, 2021: EAC Secretary General Hon. (Dr.) Peter Mathuki has hailed the Republic of Burundi and the United Republic of Tanzania for ratifying the African Continental Free Trade Area Agreement (AfCFTA). 

Burundi ratified the AfCFTA on 17th June, 2021 while Tanzania on 9th September, 2021. 

Hon. Mathuki said that the AfCFTA would allow East Africans to access a large continental market and increase EAC’s exports to African countries outside the bloc.

Tanzania to Host 1st EAC Regional Tourism Expo

East African Community Headquarters, Arusha, Tanzania, 10th September, 2021: The 1st EAC Regional Tourism EXPO will be held from 9th to 11th October, 2021 in Arusha, Tanzania.

The United Republic of Tanzania in conjunction with the EAC Secretariat will host the three-day EXPO. It will be followed by a familiarization trip for hosted international buyers and media to some of the iconic tourist sites in the region from 12th to 16th October, 2021. As a region, East Africa is endowed with a unique combination of tourist attractions comprising tropical beaches, abundant wildlife in natural habitats, scenic beauty and a geographically diverse landscape that spark imagination.

AfDB pledges more support for EAC integration process

…….commends EAC as the most integrated bloc in Africa

East African Community Headquarters, Arusha, Tanzania, 9th September, 2021: The Executive Director of thte African Development Bank (AfDB) for Kenya, Eritrea, Ethiopia, Rwanda Seychelles, South Sudan, Tanzania and Uganda, Mr. Cheptoo Amos Kipronoh, has pledged more support to Infrastructure, power connectivity and capacity building for the East African Community bloc. 

Mr. Kipronoh made the statement when he paid a courtesy call on the EAC Deputy Secretary General in charge of Planning and Infrastructure, Eng. Steven Mlote, at the EAC Headquarters in Arusha, Tanzania.
