East African Community citizens urged to support the development of the Kiswahili language to foster regional unity

East African Community Headquarters, Arusha, Tanzania, 6th July, 2024:  East African Community (EAC) citizens have been called upon to proactively develop and embrace Kiswahili, in a move aimed at promoting and celebrating the language's rich cultural heritage and fostering its unifying impact across the region.

Delivering the keynote address during the official opening session of the 2nd East African Kiswahili Commission (EAKC) International Conference in Mombasa, Kenya, Kenya’s Cabinet Secretary in charge of Gender, Culture, the Arts and Heritage, Hon. Aisha Jumwa, urged East Africans to be proactive in developing Kiswahili and other African languages to enhance their global competitiveness.

“Kiswahili is spoken by over 200 million people worldwide. This demonstrates that our efforts to promote the language are yielding results and we should continue to advance these efforts,” she stated.

All set for 3rd EAC World Kiswahili Langauge Day and 2nd East African Kiswahili International Conference in Mombasa, Kenya

East African Community Headquarters, Arusha, Tanzania, 2nd  July , 2024: Preparations are in high gear for the 3rd EAC World Kiswahili Language Day and the 2nd East African Kiswahili Commission (EAKC) International Conference scheduled for 5th - 6th and 7th July, 2024 in Mombasa, Republic of Kenya.

The three-day events under the theme Kiswahili, Multilingual Education and the Enhancement of Peace will provide a platform for Kiswahili stakeholders to share knowledge, evidence from research, best practices, experiences and worldviews on the role Kiswahili education plays in the enhancement of a culture of peace.

The objective of the 3rd EAC World International Kiswahili Day and the 2nd EAKC International Conference is to explore the role of Kiswahili and multilingual education in fostering a culture of peace.

45th Ordinary Meeting of the EAC Council of Minister currently underway in Arusha, Tanzania

East African Community Headquarters, Arusha, Tanzania, 27th  June, 2024: 45th Ordinary Meeting of the East African Community (EAC) Council of Ministers is currently underway via hybrid (physical and virtual) means in Arusha, Tanzania.

The seven-day meeting from 22nd – 28th June, 2024 started with the Session of Senior Officials that started on Saturday, 22nd June and ended on Tuesday, 25th June, 2024. The Session of the Coordination Committee that brings together Partner States’ Permanent /Principal/Under Secretaries) was scheduled from Wednesday, 26th – Thursday, 27th June, 2024 with the Ministerial session set for Friday, 28th June, 2024.
