East African Community Headquarters, Arusha, Tanzania, 24thNovember, 2021: The East African Community (EAC) has today launched the EAC Regional and Domestic Tourism Media Campaign set to publicize national and regional tourism products and services, in a move aiming at stimulating intra-regional travel.
The campaign dubbed, ‘Tembea Nyumbani’, seeks to entice East Africans to travel in their specific countries and around the region, in an effort to revive domestic and regional tourism across the region, amid the pandemic.
The campaign is set to run for three weeks, from 1st December, 2021. It is part of implementation of the EAC Tourism Marketing Strategy and EAC Recovery Plan supported by German Development Agency, GIZ.
East African Community Headquarters, Arusha, Tanzania, 24th November, 2021: A five-day retreat of the staff of the EAC Statistics Development and Harmonization Regional Project (StatDHRP) is currently underway in Karatu, Tanzania.
The objectives of the retreat is to review the progress on the Project implementation at technical level; discuss the current status on the EAC database development; prepare the Project work plan and budget for the Financial Year 2022/23 and hold consultations on the New Regional Statistics Project among others.
Speaking on behalf of the EAC Secretary General Hon. (Dr.) Peter Mathuki during the opening session of the retreat, the Deputy Secretary General in charge of planning and Infrastructure, Eng. Steven Mlote said that the retreat presents an opportunity to reflect on the achievements and challenges faced in the implementation of the Work plan for the Financial Year 2021/2022 which was developed in a similar retreat at this same venue one year ago.
East African Community Headquarters, Arusha, Tanzania, 23rd November, 2021: Ministers in charge of East African Community (EAC) Affairs have recommended for consideration by the EAC Heads of States the report of the verification team on the application by The Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) to join the Community.
The Ministers further recommended that the EAC Heads of State direct the commencement of negotiations with the DRC, in accordance with the findings of the verification team.
The Ministers made the decision during their 44th Extra-Ordinary Meeting held on 22nd November, 2021 via a hybrid format.
East African Community Headquarters, Arusha, 22nd November, 2021: The 41st Ordinary Meeting of the East African Community (EAC) Council of Ministers is currently underway via hybrid (physical and virtual) means.
The six-day meeting started on Monday, 22nd November, 2021 with the Session of Senior Officials which ends on Wednesday, 24th November, 2021.The session of the Coordination Committee (Permanent /Principal/Under Secretaries) is set for Thursday, 25th November, while the Ministerial Session will take place on Monday, 29th November, 2021.

This follows extensive deliberations between the East African Community (EAC) and the East African Trade Union Confederation (EATUC) on strengthening the labour, employment and migration agenda, held today at the EAC Headquarters in Arusha, Tanzania.
East African Court of Justice, 19th November 2021: The Appellate Division dismissed Appeal No. 3 of 2020 Central Bank of Kenya vs Pontrilas Investments Limited & Attorney General of Kenya.
Court ordered that both the Appeal and Cross appeal have no merit and ordered the First Instance Division (Trial Court) to proceed to hear and determine Reference No. 8 of 2017.
The Appeal was challenging the decision of the Trial Court in Application No. 14 of 2017 arising from the Reference mentioned.

Organised by the Indian Ocean Commission (IOC) through the Regional Maritime SecurityProgramme (MASE) funded by the European Union, this session brought together more than thirty participants representing the seven signatory States (Comoros, Djibouti, France, Kenya, Madagascar, Mauritius and Seychelles), the Regional Maritime Information Fusion Centre (RMIFC), the Regional Operations Coordination Centre (RCOC) and the European Union (EU) Delegation in Mauritius.
East African Community Headquarters, Arusha, Tanzania, 17th November, 2021: The East African Community (EAC) and the Federal Republic of Germany have today firmed up their longstanding cooperation by signing an additional US$11.5 million financing agreement to support water resource management at the Lake Victoria Basin Commission (LVBC).
Germany further committed an additional US$12.6 million to support the digitalization of trade and integration in the bloc, EAC pandemic preparedness and in integrating the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA).
….as Retreat of Sectoral Council on Finance and Economic Affairs concluded in Mombasa, Kenya
East African Community Headquarters, Arusha, Tanzania, 17th November, 2021: The East African Community Sectoral Council on Finance and Economic Affairs (SCFEA) has agreed on a Hybrid Model of financing the EAC budget.
A two-day retreat of the SCFEA held in Mombasa, Kenya from 15th to 16th November, 2021 further recommended to the EAC Council of Ministers, the policy making Organ of the Community, to approve the model as the new financing mechanism for the EAC.
East African Community Headquarters, Arusha, Tanzania, 16th November, 2021: The East African Community is making strides in conforming to trading requirements under the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA), with plans underway to finalize the EAC Tariff Offer.
The EAC Sectoral Council on Trade, Industry, Finance and Investment (SCTIFI) has directed the EAC Secretariat to convene meetings with experts, by 15th December 2021, to finalize the EAC Tariff Offer.
The EAC Tariff Offer currently stands at 85.86% against the AfCFTA modalities of 90%.
