The 10th Extraordinary Summit of the International Conference on the Great Lakes Region (ICGLR)
3rd June, 2023: The 10th Extraordinary Summit of the International Conference on the Great Lakes Region (ICGLR) was held on 3 June 2023 in Luanda, Angola. The summit was convened and chaired by His Excellency João Lourenço, President of the Republic of Angola and the current Chairperson of the ICGLR.
Former President His Excellency Uhuru Kenyatta, the Facilitator of the East Africa Community (EAC)-led Nairobi Process, virtually participated in the Summit.
The summit discussed the issue of peace and security in the region, specifically the situations in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) and the Republic of Sudan.
The summit participants expressed their deep concern about the ongoing violence and insecurity in eastern DRC, and called for an immediate cessation of hostilities. They also expressed their support for the efforts of the DRC government to implement the Nairobi and Luanda peace processes, and urged all parties to engage in constructive dialogue.
