EACRF Force Commander visits Burundi Troops at Mubambiro, Masisi Territory
The Force Commander (FC) East African Community Regional Force (EACRF) Maj Gen Aphaxard Kiugu in the company of Brig Generals Emmanuel Kaputa, Gregoire Ndorarigonya and Michael Kibuye, Colonel Jok Akech among other Staff Officers on 16th November 2023 made a command visit to the Burundi Contingent (BURCON) Headquarters at Mubambiro, Masisi Territory in Eastern Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC).
The FC was received by BURCON's Commander Col Ildephonse Baranyikwa who apprised him of the current security situation in their Area of Operation (AOR).
Col Baranyikwa briefed on the recent clashes between the Armed Forces of the Democratic Republic of Congo (FARDC) and M23 in Masisi territory impacting the safety of the local population. This has caused more people to flee their homes to the Internally Displaced Persons camps that are already in dire need of humanitarian assistance.
The FC commended the troops for their hard work and professionalism and encouraged them to remain committed to the implementation of the mandate despite the threats they continue to face in the AOR.
