EACRF Force Commander visits Kencon Troops at Goma International Airport Temporary Operating Base
The Force Commander (FC) EACRF Maj Gen Aphaxard Kiugu in the company of his Deputy Brig Gen Emmanuel Kaputa & other Staff Officers on 17th August 2023 made a command visit to Kenyan troops deployed at the Temporary Operating Base at Goma International Airport in Eastern DRC.
The Officer Commanding Major Collins Okoth received the FC who was briefed by Captain Danton Abuga on the deployment of the troops, their roles that largely encompass air operations and defence of Goma International Airport (GIA).
The FC instructed them to remain truthful to the mandate of EACRF by continuing to work jointly with the Armed Forces of the Democratic Republic of Congo (FARDC) and MONUSCO in contributing to peace and security in Eastern DRC.
"The East African Community Heads of State deployed this Force to assist the citizens of Eastern DRC in their efforts to establish lasting peace and stability, following the prolonged security challenges they have been facing I am optimistic that if we do our part under the military track and allow our leaders to deal with the political track, we shall accomplish our task and be part of the success story,” the FC said.
Further, the FC guided the troops to ensure operational synergy with their counterparts from FARDC, MONUSCO, GIA security, and other actors to ensure the protection measures in place for the Airport are synchronized.
