Deputy Secretary General
Mr. Charles Njoroge is the current EAC Deputy Secretary General in charge of Political Federation.
As the Deputy Secretary General, his keen interest has been to lay a firm foundation for the complete integration of the socioeconomic and political agenda as stipulated in Treaty establishing the East African Community.
The focus has been on issues of mutual interest such as peace and security in the region to attract investments and guarantee development; and by developing and advocating for common approaches on matters of interest in the international and regional forums in a bid to strengthen the Community’s bargaining power.
Other issues Mr. Njoroge had spearheaded include governance, preventive diplomacy, judiciary, anti-corruption and human rights; electoral matters and issues touching on youth involvement in the process of the EAC integration agenda.
He has been involved with all the various economic pillars in the course of his work and has interacted and worked closely with East Africans.
Mr. Njoroge holds a bachelor’s Degree in Economics from the University of Nairobi, a Master’s degree in Development Studies from Dalhousie University, Halifax, Nova Scotia, Canada; and a Postgraduate Certificate in Regulatory Affairs from University of Westminster, United Kingdom.
