Women hold key to region's economic success, says EAC Secretary General

East African Community Headquarters, Arusha, Tanzania, 7^th March, 2022; The Secretary General of the East African Community (EAC),  Hon. (Dr)  Peter Mathuki said women constitute more than 50 percent of the population of the EAC and therefore hold the key to the region’s economic success.  

Dr. Mathuki made a statement earlier today during the opening session of an Annual Women’s Conference organized by EAC Secretariat in collaboration with the Tengeru Institute of Community Development as part of the 2022 International Women’s Day celebrations.

President Uhuru Kenyatta calls for greater participation of youth in Africa in political and economic affairs

…as 2021 Youlead Summit starts in Arusha, Tanzania

East African Community Headquarters, Arusha, Tanzania, 9^th November, 2021: The President of the Republic of Kenya, H.E. Uhuru Kenyatta, has urged fellow African leaders to prioritize the participation of youth on the continent in economic and political affairs Africa to expand Africa’s productive workforce and promoting entrepreneurship. 

President Kenyatta said that the youth had lots of energy and ideas that could be harnessed as positive instruments of change to counteract the adverse impact of COVID-19 and climate change.

EAC launches Raising the Flag Project

East African Community Headquarters, Arusha, Tanzania, 15^th July 2021:  The EAC Secretariat has launched the ‘Raising the Flag’ Project to promote the engagement of youth and children in the EAC integration process.

‘Raising the Flag’ is an EAC sensitization initiative that will be implemented in collaboration with Save the Children International and organisations under the East African Civil Society Organisations Forum and the East African Youth Network.

5th Sectoral Council of Ministers on Gender, Youth, Children, Social Protection and Community Development underway in Arusha

East African Community Headquarters, Arusha, Tanzania, 9^th June, 2021: A five-day meeting of the Sectoral Council Ministers on Gender, Youth, Children, Social Protection and Community Development is currently underway at the EAC Headquarters in Arusha. 

The 5^th Sectoral Council on Gender, Youth, Children, Social Protection and Community opened on Monday, 7th June, 2021 with the Session of Senior Officials that ended today, Wednesday, 9^th June, 2021. The Coordination Committee or Session of Permanent/Principal/Under Secretaries is slated for Thursday, 10^th June, 2021 followed by the Session of Ministers/Cabinet Secretaries on Friday, 11^th June, 2021.
